Originally, when I agreed to blog here, I agreed to blog once a month. But then, I had an idea: what if I blogged twice a month and one of those posts was more of a question or resource center? Of course, this idea will only work if you all participate!
Then, I watched Pres. Obama’s inauguration speech yesterday. I thought it was serendipitous and would be a great start to these question posts. I thought, hey, why don’t we all share great drink recipes to celebrate?
Today, as I sit to write the post, I am listening to my daughter snore and wheeze, her cold having gotten the better of her. I hate when she is sick– the feeling helpless and hopeless, the not being able to wave a wand and magically fix everything, the way it lasts so long (at least in my head). So, instead, I am asking everyone, in the comments section, to share a favorite recipe for sick kids. What do you give your little ones to make them better? How can I replicate it in my home?
Still nervous? Not sure what to share? Planning to just move on and read the next post? Here, I’ll get us started. When we get sick I force-feed the whole family Cinnamon-Ginger-Apple smoothies.
Clare’s Get-Well Cinnamon-Ginger-Apple Smoothies
Ingredients:
1 banana
1 cup apple juice
1-2 cm fresh ginger (peeled)
Dash of cinnamon
2 ice cubesPut all ingredients in a blender. Blend. Serve with a silly straw. Repeat as needed. Get better.

This couldn’t have come at a better time for me! And I hope folks include helpful home remedies for grown-ups, too. I have The Influenza (!!!), and my son just came down with it, too.
Miso soup has felt good to me (when I eventually vould think about ingeating stuff), and “Emergen-C”- filled water. The kids like herbal tea with honey.
Gonna get my Florence Nightengale to try your smootie recipe. When she gets a spare moment.
Ugh! It really does seem like everyone is sick this year. Hope you feel better. Miso sounds delicious right now.
I am old school.
I like chicken broth, served in a big mug to hold and sip. If the kids have a little appetite, I add some rice. If it is for me and I have a little appetite, rice and chopped spinach.
Old-school for my mom is chicken soup. Old-school for my dad is Kopps ice cream. I was always my father’s daughter.
Frozen blueberries, frozen bananas, milk (of any kind) in a blended. Tastes fabulous, good for sore throats, gets calories into kids who are refusing food. Add powdered probiotic, vitamin D for more immunity kick.
Yum! I always like a liquid diet when I’m sick.
We are firm believers that apple juice popsicles and toast cure most things. My kids don’t like it, but for me, the best medicine is Pho. Definitely Pho.
